THE Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) seized early Tuesday morning some P6.8 million worth of illegal drugs from a couple, tagged as alleged big-time drug peddlers in Luzon, during a buy-bust operation in Quezon City.
PDEA National Capital Region Office Director Joel Plaza identified the arrested suspects as Ernie Rodriguez, 44, and Teresa Matias, residents of Barangay E. Rodriguez, Quezon City.
PDEA said the suspects were responsible for the street-level distribution of illegal drugs, particularly shabu, in Metro Manila and in some provinces in Luzon.
According to Plaza, the two were placed under surveillance for a month prior to the entrapment.
Combined operatives of PDEA-NCR, PDEA Regional Office 5, and Quezon City Police Station 7 conducted a drug sting against the suspects in their house on Ermin Garcia Street around 1:30 a.m.
After the deal, operatives immediately collared Rodriguez and Matias.
Recovered from the suspects were sachets of suspected shabu weighing at least a kilogram with an estimated street value of P6.8 million.
The couple is now under the custody of PDEA and will be charged with violation of the anti-drugs law. (Alexandria San Juan)
