AUTHORITIES seized more than P30,000 worth of various processed food products of a popular company in a raid on some stalls in Quiapo, Manila, police said Wednesday.
Director Guillermo Eleazar, director of the National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO), said the operation stemmed from reports received by the Food and Drugs Administration-Regulation Enforcement Unit that some vendors have been selling expired processed foods in Quiapo district of Manila.
FDA agents and policemen then raided three stalls at the corner of Villalobos Street and Carlos Palanca in Quiapo and resulted in the confiscation of products worth P30,475.
Among those seized were noche buena items like queso de bola, spaghetti sauce, catsup, chicken breaded breasts and flour, said Eleazar.
Based on the investigation, the processed food products are nearing expiration and what the vendors did is to alter the expiration date to make it appear that the items are newly-delivered.
“We actually provided area security for the FDA during the conduct of the operation,” said Eleazar.
All the seized items were turned over to the FDA, according to Eleazar.
Senior Inspector Myrna Diploma, NCRPO spokesperson, said they will continuously monitor the same modus operandi as a form of assistance to the FDA, what with the danger that expired food products pose to the consumers. (Aaron Recuenco)
