Isolated light rains will prevail over Northern and Central Luzon this weekend due to the cold weather-associated northeast monsoon or “amihan.”
The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical, and Astronomical Services Administration said the amihan will continue to bring colder weather and isolated light rains over Ilocos Norte, Ilocos Sur, La Union, Pangasinan, Batanes, Cagayan, Isabela, Nueva Vizcaya, Quirino, Abra, Benguet, Ifugao, Kalinga, Apayao, Mountain Province, Bataan, Bulacan, Nueva Ecija, Pampanga, Tarlac, and Zambales.
Metro Manila and the rest of the country will experience partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rain showers due to localized thunderstorms.
PAGASA has not issued a gale warning but it advised sea vessels of moderate to rough seas over the coastlines of Northern Luzon and eastern sections of Luzon and Visayas due to moderate to strong winds coming from the northeast.
Only slight to moderate seas will prevail over the rest of the country.
Based on PAGASA records, at least one or two tropical cyclones may enter or affect the country in December.
It sees a generally below normal rainfall with patches of near normal rainfall over Eastern Mindanao during the month.
PAGASA said atmospheric indicators, such as trade winds, cloudiness, pressure patterns, and the Southern Oscillation Index, have yet to show consistent or sustained signs of El Niño.
But there is a high likelihood that the neutral weather condition will transition to El Niño by the end of the year.
PAGASA said potential meteorological dry spell to drought conditions are likely in most areas of Luzon and Visayas in the coming months. (Ellalyn V. Ruiz)
