DAVAO CITY – Police operatives seized illegal drugs, paraphernalia, and a grenade inside the Sports Utility Vehicle owned by a policeman who evaded arrest in Mati City, Davao Oriental Wednesday afternoon.
Davao Oriental Police Provincial Office-Police Community Relations (DOPPO-PCR) chief Supt. Ariel Nueva identified the suspect as PO2 Luis P. Gabrinao Jr., assigned at Island Garden City of Samal Police Station.
Nueva said the suspect was identified through the passport he left inside his car.
He said the SUV was spotted using a fake license plate number during the conduct of “Oplan: Davao Oriental Kalinaw” at around 3:30 p.m. on Rizal St. in Barangay Central.
The discovery of the fake license plate came after checking with the Land Transportation Office (LTO) through its hotline.
Policemen tailed the suspect’s vehicle, until Gabrinao sped off toward Lawaan St. and abandoned the car.
Discovered inside the vehicle were a fragmentation grenade, a sachet of suspected shabu, two empty sachets with shabu residue, electronic pocket weighing scale, and wooden pipe used for puffing marijuana, among others.
Gabrinao faces possible charges for violations of Republic Act 9165 or the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002 and RA 9516 or the Unlawful Manufacture, Sales, Acquisition, Disposition, Importation,
or Possession of an Explosive or Incendiary Device. (Armando Fenequito Jr.)
