Jomary “The Zamboanginian Fighter” Torres has been diligently training for her final ONE Championship appearance this year.
All her hard work will be showcased this coming Friday, 7 December, when she squares off against a former ONE World Title challenger.
The Filipina breakout star is scheduled to go toe-to-toe with Japanese veteran Mei “V.V.” Yamaguchi in a three-round atomweight bout at ONE: DESTINY OF CHAMPIONS, which takes place at the Axiata Arena in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.
“We know that Yamaguchi is a versatile athlete, and I’m ready for whatever she brings,” the 22-year-old said.
“We are upgrading all aspects of my game in preparation for this match. I know I’m facing a tough opponent, but I definitely know how I can beat her.”
Torres knows her Japanese foe has an intricate set of skills due to her vast experience as a seasoned competitor, but the Zamboanga Del Norte native has already found an area she believes she can exploit in their upcoming contest.
“Yamaguchi has many weapons, so I need to be careful as I execute my offense,” she explained.
“I have watched a lot of videos of her previous matches, and I think my stand-up game could give her some problems.”
With the intention of placing herself back on the winning track, Torres does not have any plans of leaving the bout’s outcome in the hands of the judges. She is motivated to get a stoppage.
“I am looking for a knockout win,” she continued.
“I believe that I am the stronger athlete between the two of us, and I will do my best to get the best out of it. One of my objectives is to force her to trade strikes with me until my heavy bombs find their targets.”
Torres is driven to end the year with a bang and set herself up for a run at the upper echelon of her weight class.
“I started the year with a huge win. I am closing out my 2018 in the same fashion,” she declared. “I’m ready to end this year with a big win against one of the biggest names in my division.”
