SEVERAL one-time-password devices, which are used in cybercrimes and bank frauds, were confiscated from a passenger from Hong Kong at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport recently, the Bureau of Customs said.
The devices were concealed in two small boxes of biscuits inside the passenger’s baggage. According to Customs X-ray Inspection officers, the devices were detected during x-ray scanning.
A total of 58 one-time-password devices were confiscated.
The baggage owner was later identified as Hu Tiewei. He arrived at the NAIA Terminal 3 on Nov. 16, 2018 onboard Cathay Pacific Flight No. CX907.
Charges will be filed against Hu for importing OTP devices, a violation of Republic Act 8484 or the Access Device Laws, and Republic Act 10863 also known as the Customs Modernization and Tariff Act.
Meanwhile, various food supplements and dietary drink supplements worth P400, 000 with no import permit were also discovered at a warehouse at the Port of NAIA.
According to Customs agents, 170 bottles of food supplements and two boxes of dietary drink supplements were found at the PAIRCARGO warehouse in NAIA.
The imported goods were confiscated because it lacked the required importation permit from the Food and Drug Administration under the Department of Health.
Prior to the discovery, the parcel, which arrived onboard Korean Air Flight No. KE621, was marked “X” due to suspicious image upon x-ray scanning. It was subjected to further verification.
It was learned that the parcel was consigned to Dr. Vigilanda M. Solijun of Misamis Oriental. It was sent from California, USA, by a certain Bernie F. Manansala. (Betheena Kae Unite)
