MANY were downright disappointed with Katarina Rodriguez failing to make the cut at this year’s Miss World competition.
The coronation night was held in Sanya, China, Saturday.
Despite predictions, the Filipina beauty queen fell off early and was not even able to advance to the Top 30.
Vanessa Ponce de Leon, a Mexican model, won the title.
Thailand’s Nicolene Pichapa Limsnukan finished 1st runner-up, while representatives from Belarus, Jamaica, and Uganda rounded out the top five.
Some Pinoys couldn’t help but express their disappointment over the outcome via social media.
Posted a netizen, “Talo? Na naman?? Kaasar!”
Another added, “Anyare??”
In any case, there are those who voiced support for the dusky beauty’s efforts lauding her for a job well done.
“Okay lang ‘yan,” said one. “She tried. She is still our Miss World no matter what.”
“We still love Miss World 2018 Philippines Katarina Rodriguez! We know that you did your best and we’re still proud of you,” added another fan.
There are those who pointed to her Beauty with a Purpose (BWAP) project failing to make it to the finals for the loss.
“It’s not Katarina! It’s the organizers here who is to blame! Hindi nila siya tinulungan dun sa BWAP ayun tsugi tuloy,” read a post.
The BWAP is considered a very important segment of the Miss World pageant. Through the segment, each candidate is required to create a video urging support for their chosen advocacy.
Katarina’s Project Become, which focuses on displaced children in Marawi, failed muster.
The beauty queen apologized for it earlier noting she wasn’t able to fulfill requirements.
“It hurt me that I did not qualify for BWAP more than anything else in the past because I wanted the world to see what war and violence does to real life people,” she said.
It is the eighth time the Miss World final has been held in Sanya, which first hosted the pageant in 2003.
The lavish event included Sister Sledge’s performance of their 1979 hit “We Are Family.” (NEIL RAMOS)
