TALAINGOD, Davao del Norte – The wife of a militiaman was allegedly killed by suspected New People’s Army rebels here Saturday afternoon.
Philippine National Police Regional Office 11 director Chief Supt. Marcelo Morales said the local police identified the victim as Gina Mantayona, 23.
Morales said she is wife of Mario Mantayona, a Civilian Active Auxiliary of the 56th Infantry Battalion and a resident of Sitio Nasilaban Proper, Baragay Palma Gil.
He said initial investigation showed that Mario was on duty when two gunshots were fired upon their house.
Gina sustained a bullet wound in the right portion of her abdomen.
The victim was taken to the Davao del Norte Hospital-Kapalong Zone. However, due to her critical condition, she was referred to the Davao Regional Medical Center in Tagum City but was declared dead on arrival.
Morales said a report from the 56th IB bared that the gunmen were believed to be members of Guerilla Front 55 led by a certain Rommel Tausan.
Morales ordered the local police to conduct in-depth investigation and arrest the perpetrators as soon as possible.
“We condemn such vicious attacks on civilians by the communist terrorist CPP-NPA,” he said.
He said they will give justice to the family of the victim and will file appropriate charges against them. (Armando Fenequito Jr.)
