AN 80-year-old grandmother perished along with her daughter and grandson during a fire that razed a commercial-residential building in Novaliches, Quezon City, early Thursday morning.
Arcenia Amongo, her daughter Josie Ilalim, 42, and grandson John Daniel Arciaga, 5, died when they were trapped inside their house during the fire, according to investigators.
Probers of the Bureau of Fire Protection-Quezon City said the fire broke out at the rear portion of SM Francisco Arcade on Damong Maliit Road in Barangay Nagkaisang Nayon around 2:51 a.m.
The fire was raised to third alarm at 3:05 a.m. as the blaze quickly spread in the one-storey commercial-residential building owned by a certain Von Francisco.
The blaze lasted for more than an hour before it was declared out at 4:22 a.m.
At least five houses and establishments were burnt while three families were rendered homeless few days before Christmas.
Estimated damage to property was pegged at P1 million.
Fire inspectors have yet to establish the cause of fire. (Alexandria San Juan)
