The son of a former Malabon City mayor was killed by two men riding a motorcycle in the parking lot of a cockpit arena in Barangay Potrero, Malabon before dawn Saturday.
Police identified the victim as Ariel Vicencio, 53, a businessman, a resident of Barangay Potrero, and son of former Malabon Mayor Amado “Boy” Vicencio.
Two men – Jomel dela Cruz, 23, of Barangay Potrero; and Rolando Torres, 58, of San Rafael, Tarlac – were injured in the incident.
Investigation showed that the three men were leaving the cockpit arena at about 3:15 a.m.
Upon reaching the parking lot, two armed men wearing jackets, bonnets, and helmets onboard a motorcycle blocked their paths and shot Vicencio repeatedly in the head.
Dela Cruz and Torres were reportedly injured when they stepped on sharp nails while running away for cover.
The victims were taken to the Manila Central University Hospital in Caloocan City for treatment. Vicencio was declared dead-on-arrival at about 4:33 a.m.
Police said Vicencio had faced several charges in the past.
On August 2002, he was nabbed for allegedly beating up a policeman for reportedly glaring at him.
He was also linked to a kidnapping plot on December 2012 and faced charges for kidnapping,
serious illegal detention, and illegal possession of firearms.
Previous reports showed that Vicencio was allegedly involved in illegal drug activities.
Police retrieved two caliber .40 fired cartridge cases from the crime scene. Further investigation is underway.
