TWO members of the Dawlah Islamiyah (DI) group surrendered to the military in Cotabato City over the weekend, officials announced Wednesday.
Those who surrendered without firearms were identified as a certain Nasrudin Tuya and Sharwina Mohamad, members of DI Cotabato Chapter, the military reported.
The two yielded to the Joint Task Force Kutawato under Col. Wilbur C. Mamawag last Sunday.
Custodial debriefing of the duo was also conducted following their surrender.
Major General Cirilito E. Sobejana, commander of the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) Joint Task Force Central, commended the troops and various stakeholders for their roles in the surrender of the DI group members.
“DI and other threat groups in Central Mindanao were diminishing with their organizational leadership and capabilities, and we encourage others to lay down their arms to live peacefully,” Sobejana said. (Francis T. Wakefield)
