CLOSE TO – Sen. Cynthia Villar is one lady who’s down to earth.
This the entertainment media found out at a late breakfast at Coffee Project located at the ground floor of the Villar-owned condo along Esquerra (very near Timog) in QC. Senator Villar just came from an event held in Rizal town, Laguna, whose residents are into farming and livelihood programs, very close to her heart.
She said the government and herself as senator are doing their best to help people, especially the poor. But they also have to help themselves, otherwise “Wala na kaming magagawa, nasa kanila na ‘yun.”
Isn’t that being very down to earth?

CHRISTMAS IN LA – For the past 30 years or so, Senator Villar, husband Manny and children spend Christmas in Los Angeles, California.
She says she doesn’t cook, but that is no problem. There are many fine restaurants in the Glendale area, where the Villars stay during the holiday.
And what does she give to all those “namamasko”? Mrs. Villar laughs, “Money.”
Very practical, the recipients can buy whatever they want.
By the way, the Villars bring along 30 to 40 executives to LA. “Educational trip and at the same time holiday vacation.”

RECYCLE, RECYCLE – Senator Villar is a recycle champion. In Baseco Tondo, women peel mountains of garlics. Mrs. Villar and her staff taught them how to turn the garlic peels into papers.
Plastic bottles of mineral water and sachets are made into classroom desks donated to public schools. Water lilies floating on the polluted Laguna de Bay are turned into beautiful bags, baskets, step-ins. Plants in the backyards are processed into scents and liniments.
Senator Villar has set up three recycling machines. In Las Piñas for Luzon, Iloilo for the Visayas, and Cagayan de Oro for Mindanao.
How does she deal with “plastic people”? “I ignore them.”
