Two Army soldiers were wounded in a shooting incident yesterday in Cotabato City.
Major Gen. Cirilito E. Sobejana, commander of the Armed Forces of the Philippines Joint Task Force Central and chief of the Army 6th Infantry Division, identified the victims as Privates First Class Michael F. Haudar and Nerwin F. Delfin, 26.
Both are assigned to the Army 37th Infantry Battalion under the 6th ID and residents of Bagumbayan, Sultan Kudarat.
Sobejana said that based on initial reports he received, the shooting incident happened on Sinsuat Ave., Barangay
Rosary Heights, near the Seaoil gas station, at about 8:30 a.m.
Initial investigation disclosed that the victims were on board a Yamaha motorcycle from PC Hill when unidentified
motorcycle riding criminals appeared and shot the two soldiers.
The gunmen fled while the victims were taken to the Cotabato City Regional Medical Center.
Sobejana said Haudar sustained a bullet wound to the head and is in critical condition. Delfin, on the other hand, is in stable condition.
Recovered from the crime scene were four empty shells of a caliber .45 pistol.
“We are still verifying the motive. Manhunt against the perpetrators is ongoing,” Sobejana said. (Francis T. Wakefield)
