A 14-year-old girl lost her parents’ cash and items worth over P300,000 to a “dugo-dugo” gang in Manila last Saturday.
According to the victim’s mother, the unidentified suspects called her daughter in their house in Quezon City while they were away in the morning of Dec. 29.
The callers told the child that her mother met an accident and needed help.
One of the suspects even pretended to be the mother and instructed the child to get money and assorted items inside their cabinet.
The victim was further told not to hang up their telephone then her cellphone, her mother said.
After doing so, the child immediately left home and met the suspects at about 1:34 p.m. on Quezon Boulevard in Quiapo district.
She only realized that she had been duped when her mother called up and told her that she was home.
Three suspects, including a woman and a man described about 30 to 35, about 5’5’’ tall with fair complexioned, are now the subject of manhunt operations.
Manila Police District-General Assignment and Investigation Section (MPD-GAIS) said further investigation is ongoing.
Meanwhile, MPD reminded the public to be vigilant as “dugo-dugo” gang as it usually strikes at times when everybody is busy with the holidays.
It advised those who would receive suspicious call to directly check first with the concerned parties, especially when it involves money, to avoid being victimized by a scam. (Ria Fernandez)
