AN alleged “basag-kotse” robber was arrested shortly after stealing more than P70,000 worth of cash and valuables from the car of a physician who went jogging with his wife inside the University of the Philippines (UP) Diliman campus in Quezon City Wednesday morning.
Quezon City Police District director Chief Superintendent Joselito Esquivel Jr. identified the suspect as Roel Calso, 30, a resident of Kaingin 1, Barangay Pansol.
According to the victim, Algerich Chua, a 48-year-old physician, he parked his green Toyota Innova on Agoncillo Street inside UP Campus and went for a jogging with his wife.
At around 11 a.m., the suspect showed up and smashed the rear right passenger window of the vehicle where he took away the victims’ belongings including a gray sling bag containing cash amounting to P12,000, an iPhone 8 worth P55,000, gift certificates worth P1,200, gate remote worth P3,600, stethoscope, and other personal belongings.
The incident was seen by duty guard Romualdo Torculas who immediately chased the suspect as he ran towards the shanty at Pook Dagohoy.
Other security personnel from the UP Police Department also arrived and conducted pursuit operation that led to the arrest of the suspect.
Calso was turned over to Quezon City Police Station 9 for investigation and filing of charges.
