More than a year after killing his own mother, a man was arrested for beating his father to death in Barangay 178, Camarin, Caloocan City, on New Year’s Day.
Suspect Rhenzie Magbanua, 27, was arrested after killing his father Lito Magbanua, 54, police said.
Rhona Mae Magbanua, 19, Lito’s daughter, said she, her siblings, and her father were sleeping in their house when Rhenzie barged in at about 7:30 p.m.
Rhona Mae said Rhenzie kicked his father and said, “Alam mo bang matagal na kitang gustong patayin, ha?”
He strangled Lito and then repeatedly hit him in the head and body with a metal table.
Afterwards, Rhenzie went inside his room and slept.
“Parang walang nangyari, natulog lang siya,” Rhona Mae said between sobs.
Lito was rushed by his children to Dr. Jose Natalio Rodriguez Memorial Hospital but he was declared dead-on-arrival.
The siblings sought assistance from barangay officials and the police to arrest Rhenzie.
“Nag-iisang magulang na lang namin, pinatay pa,” Rhona Mae said.
Rhona Mae said her brother has a history of violence and drug usage.
On Nov. 2, 2017, Rhenzie allegedly killed his mother by hitting her head with a pot cover and bashing her head on the ground.
Rhona Mae said they did not file charges against Rhenzie then to honor their mother’s dying wish.
“Huwag daw po namin ipakulong o isumbong si kuya, pabayaan lang daw po namin, kaya nanahimik po kami,” she said.
Rhona Mae said Rhenzie was under the influence of drugs and liquor when he killed their parents.
She said both of her parents were not able to defend themselves because they suffered from strokes.
She added that Rhenzie often harassed her and her female siblings sexually and beat their young brother.
The suspect will be charged with parricide, police said. (Minka Tiangco)
