More witnesses have surfaced to shed light on the killing of Ako Bicol partylist Rep. Rodel Batocabe last month.
The Philippine National Police expressed hope that such cooperation would finally lead to the arrest of the perpetrators.
Chief Supt. Benigno Durana, PNP spokesperson, said that all the witnesses are now being interviewed by members of the special investigating task force that was recently created to expedite the solution of the Batocabe assassination.
“At this point in time we are quite happy to report that we are progressing positively and pretty soon,” said Durana.
“Let’s see if out of these witnesses we can get suspects out of these witnesses. So the investigation is ongoing. At this point in time we are quite happy to report that we are progressing positively,” he added.
Batocabe was gunned down along with his police security escort during a gift-giving activity in Daraga, Albay. He was on his last term as partylist representative.
Local politics cropped up as a possible motive for killing Batocabe as he decided to run for mayor of Daraga in the May elections. (Aaron Recuenco)
