A RETIRED policeman was shot dead Sunday night by two unidentified armed men while serving as a referee in a basketball game in Marikina City.
Police identified the victim as retired Police Inspector Elmer Corbe, 52, of Barangay Industrial Valley Complex (IVC), Marikina.
According to SPO3 Rodrigo Febreo Jr., case investigator, Corbe was attending to basketball game outside their garage on Cadena de Amor Street around 6:45 p.m. on Sunday when two unidentified armed men alighted from a motorcycle and shot him multiple times.
After the shooting, the suspects quickly boarded their motorcycle on O. De Guzman Street and sped off towards Libis in Quezon City.
Corbe was rushed to hospital but declared dead on arrival due to four gunshot wounds in the body.
The family of Corbe told investigators that the victim was a former member of Marikina City Police. He was transferred to the Quezon City Police District after being promoted to the rank of police inspector.
Prior to his retirement from service on July 1, 2017, Corbe was assigned to the provincial police force in Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (ARMM).
“According to the family of the victim, Corbe had no enemies since he was helpful and kind to others,” Febreo said.
He added it is possible that his death was connected to his job when he was in police service.
Probers recovered from the crime scene two fired cartridge cases and six deformed slugs of unidentified caliber of firearm.
Police are conducting a follow-up investigation to identify the suspects and establish the motive behind the killing. (Jhon Aldrin Casinas)
