College of St. Benilde survived Jose Rizal University (JRU), 20-25, 25-17, 25-20, 25-22, yesterday to bolster its semifinal bid in NCAA women’s volleyball at The Arena in San Juan City.
The Lady Blazers turned to Jan Daguil in the crucial fourth set to prevail, thus improving their record to 6-1. Her crosscourt spike proved to be the game changer as it shattered a 21-all count.
Klarisa Abriam paced the Lady Blazers with 17 points, including 16 kills while Daguil fired 13 spikes to finish with 14 points. Rachel Austero and Kaila Miranda posted 12 and 10 points.
The loss dropped JRU to 4-4, putting its semis bid in peril despite the efforts of Dolly Verzosa, Rizza Rose and Sydney Niegos.
Verzosa had 12 points, while Rose and Niegos scored 12 and 10 points in futile attempts.
