San Miguel Beer head coach Leo Austria yesterday downplayed the team’s favorite’s tag in the PBA Philippine Cup that starts Sunday at the Philippine Arena in Bocaue, Bulacan.
“It’s obvious, because we’re the defending champion,” said Austria Wednesday right after the team’s practice session at the Acopolis gym in Quezon City. “We’ve won this tournament the past four seasons, that’s why other teams again pick SMB.”
Already formidable with the presence of June Mar Fajardo, former MVP Arwind Santos, sharpshooter Marcio Lassiter and the veteran backcourt pair of Alex Cabagnot and Chris Ross, the team looks more invincible with the addition of three-time scoring champion Terrence Romeo.
Austria, however, said the addition of Romeo is not a guarantee they can annex their fifth straight championship since they will go through another adjustment.
