A FORMER policeman died after an unidentified assailant stabbed him in Tondo, Manila, Sunday night.
Police said former Police Officer 1 Jose Igig, 42, was found severely wounded by his niece on Road 10 in Scarborough Katuparan, Vitas, at about 8:05 p.m. Sunday following a drinking session with several people.
He was rushed to the hospital but was declared dead on arrival at around 8:35 p.m.
Probers said the victim sustained multiple stab wounds in the body.
Residents in the area refused to speak up about the crime.
Probers recovered from the crime scene a broken liquor bottle, an orange kitchen knife, and another knife with black handle.
Further investigation is ongoing to determine the motive behind the killing, police said.
It was learned that Igig, then assigned to Quezon City, was dismissed from the police service due a grave misconduct case filed before the Office of the Ombudsman in 2010. (Ria Fernandez)
