National University scored a wire-to-wire 94-66 win over University of Santo Tomas to solidify its grip of the lead Wednesday in the UAAP Season 81 juniors basketball tournament at the Filoil Flying V Centre.
Cyril Gonzales topscored with 16 points, Carl Tamayo and Terrence Fortea had 15 and 14 points, respectively, while Gerry Abadiano came through with a double-double outing of 12 points and 10 rebounds for the Bullpups.
Kai Sotto shot a season-high 30 points as defending champion Ateneo rebounded from its back-to-back losses suffered from the hands of NU with a 82-59 romp of University of the East.
The Bullpups came out smoking, posting a 23-7 advantage at the end of the first quarter and never looked back to post their eighth win in nine games.
Sotto also drew enough support from David Diaz, who had 12 points and 14 rebounds and Geo Chiu, who chipped in 10 points and six boards for the Blue Eaglets.
The Tiger Cubs, who were led by Mark Nonoy’s 26 points, are now two games out of the No. 4 slot with their fifth loss in nine contests.
In other games, RJ Abarrientos tallied 23 points as Far Eastern University-Diliman beat De La Salle-Zobel, 95-68 to raise its record at 7-2.
Adam Doria had a career-high 27 points on too of eight rebounds while Joem Sabandal chipped in 11 points, seven assists, seven rebounds and two steals as Adamson University also improved to 6-3 following a 94-66 conquest of UP Integrated School.
