Two suspected motorcycle thieves who were about to sell a motorbike they allegedly stole were killed in a shootout with policemen inside their safehouse in Barangay Vasra, Quezon City Thursday.
Investigators of the Quezon City Police District said the slain suspects were only identified as certain Ian Diaz and Jessie, both described to be between 20- to 30-years-old.
Police said that the two men were known sellers of stolen motorbikes in Barangay Vasra, prompting officers to set a buy-bust against them.
Initial report showed that the pair offered to an undercover police a motorcycle, which was believed to be stolen, for only P15,000.
Personnel of QCPD Special Operations Unit, Anti-Carnapping Unit, Galas police station, and Masambong police station set the deal with the suspects inside their safehouse on Forestry corner Mines St. at around 7:30 p.m.
However, during the transaction, the suspects apparently sensed they are dealing with a policeman and suddenly opened fire toward the authorities.
Responding officers retaliated, resulting in a shootout which led to the death of the suspects who succumbed to multiple bullet wounds in their bodies.
Investigators recovered from safehouse three motorcycles believed to have been stolen, a caliber
.45 pistol with five live ammunition, a caliber .38 revolver with three live ammunition, seven sachets
of suspected shabu, a mobile phone, and the buy-bust money.
Further investigation showed that one of the motorbikes recovered was stolen from victim Eduardo
Bernal.
Bernal said that three armed men took his motorbike at gunpoint on Broadway Ave. in Quezon City around 11:30 p.m. last Jan. 15. (Alexandria Dennise San Juan)
