LAS VEGAS – There was a hairy situation Thursday afternoon when co-trainers Buboy Fernandez and Freddie Roach raised the issue of Adrien Broner’s beard two days before the big fight with Manny Pacquiao at the MGM Grand.
Pacquiao’s trainers thought that Broner’s beard could serve a different purpose.
“The beard is so thick that it can bother and irritate Pacquiao,” said Fernandez, who has relayed his apprehension to Roach.
“There is a guideline about that but it’s too lenient,” said Roach, who readily agreed with Fernandez’s observation.
Bob Bennett, Executive Director of the Nevada State Athletic Commission, assured Team Pacquiao that the issue will be dealt with.
“It’s going to be removed,” Bennett told TEMPO hours later as he was attending a boxing show.
Earlier, Mike Stafford, Broner’s longtime trainer, laughed off the allegation that they will use it as a weapon to bother Pacquiao.
