Edward “‘The Ferocious” Kelly may have lost the rematch to Singaporean sensation Christian “The Warrior” Lee, but he remains as motivated to keep pushing in ONE Championship.
Kelly fell to the younger Lee in just the first round, losing via TKO in the undercard of ONE: ETERNAL GLORY last Saturday, 19 January at the Istora Senayan in Jakarta, Indonesia.
The 20-year-old Evolve MMA standout quickly got the takedown, secured full mount on Kelly, before raining down punches which eventually forced the referee to stop the match.
“The loss might be a bitter pill for me to take, but I am sure that I will learn many things from it,” said Lee.
“I trained almost every day to improve. I’ll take this loss as a big lesson. I’m confident that I’ll come back stronger after this.”
Though the result did not go his way, Kelly was still in awe with how Lee performed in their match-up. The brief match exposed things that the 34-year-old needs to work on, and that is exactly what he will be focusing on moving forward.
“I respect and admire Christian Lee because he’s a great competitor. He came prepared in our match and was the better man on that night. This is a perfect opportunity for me to learn more and improve my skill set as a mixed martial arts athlete,” said Kelly.
While the loss was certainly a tough one, Kelly promises a different athlete the next time he steps foot in The Home Of Martial Arts.
“I’ll take my game to the next level, and you will be seeing a different Edward Kelly in my next outing on the ONE Championship stage.”
