Almost 200 para-athletes and persons with disability attended the Differently Abled Women’s Seminar and Fun Games yesterday at the Philsports Complex, Pasig City.
The three-day program opened with the agency’s oversight Commissioner for Women in Sports Celia Kiram encouraging all participants “to turn their challenges into victories and inspire the world.”
“For this year, we are widening our reach by inviting other differently-abled institutions and ultimately, using sports as instrument of unity and hope among our PWDs,” added Kiram.
Philippine Paralympic Committee president Mike Barredo, in his speech, thanked the PSC for never forgetting thier athletes in their projects and invited all to take in as much as they can in the lectures
Former para table tennis player and Executive Director from JP Morgan Chase Philippines Irene Louise Angiwan and University of the Philippines Prof. Francis Diaz were lectures about “life after sports” and ” developing your coaching philosophies” respectively.
Other participants from the Person with Disability Affairs Office (PDAO), National Orthopedic Hospital School for Crippled Children, Philippine National School for the Blind, Tahanan Walang Hagdanan and the National Vocational Rehabilitation Center (NVRC) also took part in the project, in cooperation with the PPC.
Sports activities and fun games will be concluded today as well as the awarding ceremony for the last day.
