Gerry Abadiano shot 29 points as National University inched closer to clinching a Final Four berth with a masterful 112-71 payback at Adamson University Sunday in the UAAP Season 81 juniors basketball tournament at the Filoil Flying V Centre.
Terrence Fortea scattered 11 of his 23 points in the Bulldogs’ third period assault as the league leaders bounced back from their 59-62 defeat to the Baby Falcons in the first round to rose at 9-1.
“Maganda yung intensity namin. Di na sila (Adamson University) nakaabante from start to finish. [Revenge is] not on our minds,” said NU coach Goldwin Monteverde.
Later, Kai Sotto produced another monster outing of 27 points, 22 rebounds and two blocks as defending champion Ateneo dismantled Far Eastern University, 77-61, to tie its victims in second place at 7-3.
Carl Tamayo had a double-double outing of 14 points and 12 rebounds while his frontcourt partner Kevin Quiambao pulled down 10 boards to go with four assists for the Bullpups.
Brothers Adam and Andrey Doria teamed up for 34 points for the Baby Falcons, who fell at 6-4 in solo fourth.
The Blue Eaglets outscored the Baby Tamaraws, 50-27, in the two middle quarters and were able to cut down their turnovers to 18.
RJ Abarrientos led FEU-Diliman with 16 points, seven boards, two assists and two steals.
In other games, rookie Mark Nonoy came through with his third triple-double of the season with 30 points, 15 boards and 10 assists as University of Santo Tomas improved to 5-5 following a 80-65 romp of UP Integrated School.
Raven Cortez shot 16 points to power De La Salle-Zobel past University of the East, 70-66, for its fourth win in 10 games.
