LOS ANGELES – Jerwin Ancajas’ mandatory defense of the International Boxing Federation (IBF) superflyweight title will be held in April, Hall of Fame promoter Bob Arum said.
Top Rank chief Bob Arum said Ancajas will face Ryuichi Funai (31-7 with 22 KOs) in April as a main supporting fight to a show the Las Vegas promotional outfit is staging.
There are two major cards in April for Top Rank: April 12 in Los Angeles and April 20 in New York City.
Sean Gibbons, Ancajas’ US representative, said Top Rank might include the Filipino southpaw underneath the April 20 promotion headlined by Terence Crawford against Amir Khan.
Ancajas is raring to get in the ring to make up for his lackluster performance in his last two fights, both held in 2018, a points win over Filipino Jonas Sultan and a draw against Mexican Alejandro Santiago.
Ancajas was in Las Vegas over the weekend with chief handler Joven Jimenez, who discussed with Gibbons their plans.
Top Rank has Ancajas under contract for two years.
