Daraga, Albay Mayor Carlwyn Baldo, the alleged mastermind in the murder of Ako Bicol partylist Rep. Rodel Batocabe and his police security escort last December, was taken to a hospital due to health problems Tuesday.
Senior Supt. Arnold Ardiente, Philippine National Police Criminal Investigation and Detection Group Bicol head, disclosed that Baldo was taken to the UST Legazpi Hospital at about 11:30 p.m. due to difficulty in breathing while inside his cell.
“Nahirapan siya huminga sa loob ng selda. Nag-hyperventilate at tumaas blood pressure at may ashtma,” Ardiente said. “Walang dinisclose na medical history,” he added.
PNP chief Director General Oscar Albayalde said there was a need to bring Baldo to the hospital due to his condition. He added that although the PNP has his own health service, the situation calls for Baldo to be immediately taken to the hospital.
“Yes, of course. Depende, meron tayong to deliberate on that, iyung ating medical team. But as of this time nakita naman nila talagang siguro may allergy ‘yung mayor so pumayag sila. At least heavily guarded naman,” Albayalde said.
Baldo was arrested Tuesday afternoon by joint police forces who raided his house in Daraga for unlicensed firearms and ammunition. (Francis Wakefield)
