The Philippine Olympic Committee held its first General Assembly for the year 2019 last Thursday at the Meralco Mini Theatre.
Highlight of the event attended by representatives of 33 of the 44 voting members of the association, was the 2018 Report by president Ricky Vargas.
Also the head of the Association of Boxing Alliances in the Philippines, Vargas said he was particularly proud of the performance of Philippine athletes in the 2018 Asian Games where the 4-gold, 2-silver and 15-bronze haul gave the country its best performance in 12 years.
Vargas referred to his campaign pledge anchored on the acronym PRIDE as the cornerstone of his programs in the POC.
P stands for improved partnerships with PSC and the private sector, R for rewards for performing NSAs and athletes, I for improved relationships with POC, Olympic Solidarity, ANOC, OCA and the SEA Games Federation.
D is differentiating Good Governance as opposed to patronage and political partisanship and E for empowerment of the NSAs.
He enumerated the courses of action which were implemented last year in furtherance of the said program.
