Larong Volleyball sa Pilipins Inc (LVPI) held an open tryout on Thursday in an effort to expand the women’s national team pool for future international tournaments.
The tryout was held at the Arellano gym along Taft Avenue in Manila where a good mix of young and veteran players showcased their talents.
Among those in attendance were Aby Maraño, Alyssa Valdez, Mika Reyes, Jia Morado, Majoy Baron, Cha Cruz-Behag, Denden Lazaro, Mylene Paat, Kianna Dy and Dawn Macandili – the same crew that saw action in the 2018 Asian Games in Indonesia.
Others who joined were Jema Galanza, Ces Molina, Aiza Pontillas, Riza Sato and Jerrili Malabanan.
Some members of the University of Santo Tomas led by Eya Laure also showed up.
National team coach Shaq Delos Santos said the 2-day tryouts aims to jumpstart the preparations not only for the 2019 Southeast Asian Games that the country is hosting late this year, but also future tournaments in 2020.
