A chilly Monday morning greeted Baguio City residents and tourists with air temperature dropping to 9.8 degrees Celsius, the lowest temperature so far this “amihan” or northeast monsoon season, according to the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical, and Astronomical Services Administration.
The lowest temperature reading in Baguio was observed at around 5 :30 a.m. This is lower than the 10.4 degrees Celsius recorded last Jan. 22.
PAGASA weather specialist Lorie dela Cruz said Metro Manila recorded an average temperature of 21.6 degrees Celsius at 5:50 a.m. Monday.
This was particularly registered at the Science Garden monitoring station in Quezon City.
Metro Manila’s lowest temperature this amihan season was recorded last Jan. 17, 2019 at 19 degrees Celsius.
Based on the PAGASA data, the lowest temperature ever recorded in Baguio was 6.3 degrees Celsius on Jan. 18, 1961.
Meanwhile, the coldest day in history in Metro Manila was registered twice on Feb. 4, 1987 and Dec. 30, 1988 at 15.1 degrees Celsius. (Ellalyn de Vera)
