Top seed International Master (IM) Ronald Bancod lived up to his billing as he ruled the Metropolitan Chess Club (MCC) Standard Chess Tournament held over the weekend at the Starmall Edsa Shaw in Mandaluyong City.
Bancod, with highest NCFP rating of 2257, finished with six wins and one draw – against fellow IM Barlo Nadera – to post 6.5 points in the seven-round Swiss event, sanctioned by NCFP and organized by MCC in cooperation with MILO.
Bancod brought home the top prize of P5,000 and trophy.
Finishing second was National Master Emmanuel Emperado (6 points) who received P3,000.
Tied for third to fourth places were Nadera and Jerico Santiaguel with 5.5 points apiece. They shared the pooled cash prizes of P3,000.
Rounding off the top 10 winners were Joshov Alekhine Rosarda (5th); FM Nelson Mariano III (6th); Brent Alanan (7th); Miguel Vergara (8th); Joseph Rivera (9th); and NM Efren Bagamasbad (10th).
Adjudged top category performers and who were awarded P1,000 each plus gold medal were: Senior – Joel Ambas; Lady – Jallen Agra; High School – Christopher Kis-ing; 12-under – Karlycris Jr. Clarito and 10-Under- Vincent Dimayuga.
Top 8-Under was Arwin Hernandez and the youngest participant was Kena Areld Galleguez from Lipa City.
