Americans Belle Almojera of Florida and Michael Mushburn of California loom as the favorites to reign in Day 2 of the semifinal round of the2019 World Slasher Cup 9-Cock Invitational Derby tomorrow at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.
Almojera, runner-up in last year’s WSC 1, posted two remarkable victories while Mushburn and his Filipino partner William Mamba outlasted their opponents.
Also with two points is defending champion Patrick Antonio who is out to redeem himself after a failed title bid in last week’s World Pitmasters Cup 9-Cock Derby at Resorts World Manila.
Rep. Marvin Rillo and 2018 WSC 2 champ Rey Briones have two entries each with two points while Eman Fiscalizer, Ben Mondragon/Lester Edoc, Quezon governor Kulit Alcala, Jimmy Junsay, Mark Calixto, Gov. Claude Bautista and Dicky Lim also collect two wins each.
“It’s difficult to score nine wins to bag the title, but it’s still possible,” said Pitgames CEO Manny Berbano, who provided full support to the Pintakasi of Champions (derby host).
The third and last semis round unfolds tomorrow. All qualifiers will compete in the final rounds on Feb. 3 and 4 (for those with 2, 2.5, 3 and 3 points) and Feb. 6 (4, 4.5 and 5 points).
The event, sponsored by Thunderbird, Emperador and Powertrac and supported by Pit Games Media and Sabong Pilipinas, will be aired on Sunday at 8 a.m. on ABS-CBN Sports + Action TV. WSC 2 sizzles on May 27 to June 2.
