The General Santos Warriors and the Zamboanga Family’s Brand Sardines posted contrasting wins Tuesday to boost their title bids in the Maharlika Pilipinas Basketball League Datu Cup at the Astrodome in Pasay City.
The Warriors downed the Parañaque Patriots, 80-76, while the Family’s Brand Sardines routed the Pasay Voyagers, 91-74, to improve their records to 12-9 and 9-12 in the South Division.
It was GenSan’s fifth straight win as they banked on John Orbeta, who finished with 21 points and 11 rebounds. Meylan Landicho added 16 points while Jorem Morada chipped in 13 points, four boards and seven assists.
Zamboanga, for its part, drew strength from Harold Arboleda, who pumped in 23 points highlighted by five triples apart from hauling down 12 rebounds and dishing off seven assists.
Allan Santos also paced with 10 points, 13 boards and five assists.
The Patriots and the Voyagers fell to 8-14 and 7-16.
