SINGER Sarah Geronimo stunned many when she performed unannounced at Zayed Sports City Stadium, Abu Dhabi, Feb. 5, following the historic Papal Mass celebrated there.
Pope Francis was in the United Arab Emirates as part of a landmark trip that saw the first-ever papal visit to the Arabian Peninsula, the birthplace of Islam.
Thousands of Catholic faithful, including a multitude of overseas Filipino workers, attended the event.
Facing the crowd of more or less 180,000 people, Sarah, who was wearing an outfit reportedly created for her by Dubai-based Filipino designer Furne One, said: “Let me introduce myself. My name is Sarah Geronimo from the Philippines…”
She added: “In different parts of the world today, it is time to rise up and spread love and peace… To quote the prayer of St. Francis of Assisi: ‘Where there is hatred, let us sow love. Where is offense, kahit mahirap po, let us forgive.’ Let us be a part to heal the world.
Sarah went on to perform several songs including “The Prayer,” “The Climb,” “Noypi,” and “Forever’s Not Enough.”
Netizens took to Twitter to post video snippets of her performance, going on to laud Sarah for the effort. (RAMPADOR ALINDOG)
