Filipino strawweight contender Robin “The Ilonggo” Catalan is now starting to reap the rewards of his hard work.
Once struggling when he first came into ONE Championship, Catalan has now won three of his last four matches in The Home Of Martial Arts.
Catalan was as convincing as ever in his most recent victory last month. He silenced the Jakarta crowd when he dominated local hero Stefer “The Lion” Rahardian at ONE: ETERNAL GLORY on 19 January.
While it took some time for him to warm up, Catalan knows that his recent success is mainly because of the hours he spent in the gym working on his craft.
“No doubt, the result of my hard work and will to win is showing,” he said.
“I trained almost every day to sharpen my tools inside the cage. We were able to do all the adjustments that we planned heading to that bout and executed them perfectly.”
Against Rahardian, Catalan was the complete package – outclassing his Indonesian foe on the feet while displaying his ever-improving grappling skills.
“The things we worked inside the gym were showcased in my victory over Rahardian,” he shared. “My takedown defense was developed, and it was very evident on that evening. The different drills helped me add power to my strikes.”
Now back to his winning ways, Catalan believes he is just merely beginning to scratch the surface of his true potential.
“Every victory inspires you to push yourself more to the limit,” he adds. “My win in Jakarta is just the beginning. Expect more explosive performances from me. The best is yet to come.”
