A FOUR-year-old boy left sleeping inside their house perished in a fire that hit a residential area in North Fairview, Quezon City, Sunday night.
Probers identified the fatality as Alexander Salas.
Quezon City Fire District marshal Jaime Ramirez said the fire broke out at the bedroom of the house owned by a certain Marivic Rebagay at 24 Bolivar Street, Bukluran Phase 8 in North Fairview around 9:28 p.m.
The fire escalated to second alarm at 9:40 p.m. as the blaze quickly spread to adjacent houses made of light materials.
According to the families of the victim, the brother of Salas had just left his brother sleeping inside the house to buy some snacks when the fire started.
Family members failed to rescue the boy as the blaze quickly spread throughout the area.
At least eight houses were destroyed by the fire that lasted for more than an hour, affecting 10 families. The blaze was put out at 10:50 p.m.
Fire probers said they were looking into information that a lighted candle triggered the fire.
Estimated damage to property was pegged at P12,000. (Alexandria San Juan)
