The Bureau of Immigration on Tuesday detained the Chinese student who threw a cup of “taho” or soybean curd drink to a police officer last Feb. 9 at the Metro Rail Transit Boni Station in Mandaluyong City.
BI spokesperson Dana Krizia Sandoval said BI intelligence operatives were armed with a mission order signed by Immigration Commissioner Jaime Morente to gain custody over Zhang Jiale, 23, for violating immigration laws.
“Zhang has already been charged as an undesirable alien for posing as a risk to public interest,” said Sandoval, adding
that the incident showed her disrespect to a person of authority.
She stated that Zhang may face deportation and eventual blacklisting and the BI board of commissioners will resolve her case in the next few weeks.
Zhang threw a cup of taho to a police officer after being lawfully prohibited from entering the MRT station with the beverage.
The foreigner posted bail after being charged for direct assault, disobedience to an agent of a person in authority, and unjust vexation by the Mandaluyong City prosecutor’s office.
“Sandoval explained that her court case and her immigration case were different matters. “Her court case will run independent from her immigration case and if found deportable, we will wait for the resolution of her court case before implementing the deportation,” she added.
Zhang is currently detained at the BI warden facility in Camp Bagong Diwa, Taguig City pending deportation proceedings. (Jun Ramirez)
