Rappler Chief Executive Officer and Executive Editor Maria Ressa was released from detention at the National Bureau of Investigation on Taft Ave., Manila after posting bail for her cyber libel case before the Manila Regional Trial Court Branch 46 before noon yesterday.
Ressa arrived at the Manila Regional Trial Court Branch 46 at around 11:30 a.m. and posted P100,000 bail with her lawyer JJ Disini.
Ressa attempted to post bail in a Pasay City night court but to no avail last Wednesday. As a result, she spent the night at the NBI following her arrest at the Rappler headquarters in Pasig City past 5 p.m.
“My stay last night at the NBI really made me think about what this is all about. For me it is about two things: Abuse of power and weaponization of the law,” the embattled journalist said as she faced the media after posting bail.
“I always said this that when I look back a decade from now, I want to make sure that I’ve done all I can. We will not duck. We will not hide. We will hold the line,” she added. (Ria Fernandez)
