Malacañang said yesterday that President Duterte is unlikely to attend this year’s celebration of the 33rd anniversary of the EDSA People Power Revolution to focus once again on other matters.
Presidential spokesman Salvador Panelo said there is no information yet if Duterte will grace the program for the EDSA People Power Revolution anniversary on Monday.
However, he said that the President might just skip it for the second straight year. “Last time wala naman, two years nang wala, eh. So most likely hindi rin a-attend ‘yun,” he said.
“Maraming trabaho ang Presidente eh. Kahapon nga nagmamadali siyang tapusin, 30 minutes, kasi meron pa siyang lakad. Masipag,” he added.
Panelo said that Duterte skipping the EDSA rites has nothing to do with his closeness to the Marcoses, the family ousted by the revolution symbolized by the late former President Cory Aquino.
“No connection, whatsoever,” Panelo said. “Marami lang trabaho si Presidente eh. He’d rather spend time reading documents concerning the government, reading books to enhance his intellect some more,” he added.
The Palace official maintained that the EDSA People Power Revolution is still important to the President. (Argyll Geducos)
