President Duterte is looking forward to returning to China for the second Belt and Road Forum in April this year, presidential spokesman Salvador Panelo said yesterday.
In his press briefing, Panelo said that Duterte received the invitation for the event during his almost one-hour, 30-minute meeting with Chinese Ambassador Zhao Jinhua in Malacañang Wednesday.
“He extended the invitation to the President, giving the greeting from the President of China, to attend the Belt and Road Forum in late April of this year,” he said.
According to Panelo, Duterte will most likely attend the forum which he also attended during its launching in 2017. “He looks forward to attending the event. I think so, yes, he will attend,” he said.
The Belt and Road Forum is an international cooperation platform which aims for a closer, stronger partnership network and pushes for a more just, reasonable, and balanced international governance system.
The inaugural forum held in China in May 2017 drew 29 foreign heads of state and government and representatives from more than 130 countries and 70 international organizations. (Argyll Geducos)
