Two suspected motorcycle thieves were killed in a shootout with policemen who caught them dismantling a motorbike at a vacant lot in Quezon City before dawn Friday.
Investigators of Quezon City Police District described the suspects as in their early 40s, both wearing black jackets, shorts and t-shirts.
Members of the Quezon City Police Station 6 received a call through PNP hotline at around 1:30 a.m. about the presence of four suspicious men who entered a vacant lot at Marahan Subdivision on Sorsogon Street in Barangay Payatas.
Policemen were tipped off that the men were seen dismantling two motorcycles, prompting them to proceed to the area to verify the report.
Sensing the presence of the policemen, the suspects suddenly pulled out their handguns and fired shots at the cops, triggering a shootout.
The encounter ended after police officers killed two of the suspects. The two other suspects managed to escape.
Seized from the slain men were two motorcycles — a red Suzuki Skydrive and a black Honda Beat — and a motorcycle plate number (NE 78518) which will be subject for verification.
Also recovered from the duo were two .38-caliber revolvers without serial numbers and a coin purse containing eight sachets of suspected shabu, according to police. (Alexandria San Juan)
