CEBU CITY – A homicide complaint has been filed against Nel Spencer Tiu, the boyfriend of the teenage girl who died of party drug overdose last Jan. 20.
The family of Ashley Abad, led by her father Jose Alfonso and uncle Benny, filed the complaint along with the Cebu City Police Office before the City Prosecutor’s Office last Saturday.
The filing of the complaint came more than a month after Ashley died.
The 19-year-old Ashley was with Tiu and some friends when she passed out in a concert at the Cebu Business Park last Jan. 19. Ashley was taken to a hospital where she died the following day.
Based on the examination conducted by the Philippine National Police Crime Laboratory, Ashley died of ecstasy overdose.
The Abad family met President Duterte in Malacanang last Feb. 7. The President ordered the city police to immediately arrest Tiu.
After turning down several invites for police questioning, Tiu showed up at the CCPO last Feb. 14 and denied that he was the one who gave the party drug to his girlfriend.
In a recent speech in Malacañang, the President revealed that the party drug that Ashley took reportedly came from her based on forensic examinations.
Despite the President’s pronouncement, Ashley’s family remained hopeful that Tiu will be held liable for the teenager’s death.
“As the wheels of justice start to grind, we express faith in our justice system that Nel Spencer Tiu and his cohorts will be made accountable for their actions and dare them not to hide behind the phony skirt of wealth and influence,” the Abad family said in a press statement.
The Abad family stressed that following Ashley’s death, something has to be done to save the youth from the menace of illegal drugs. “While there are still now words to describe our pain, but today is no longer about us. Today marks the beginning of our fight for justice not only for Ashley’s death, but also for the youth who may fell prey to drugs, betrayal and deception,” they added.
The Abad family warned Tiu that they won’t stop until Ashley’s death will be given justice. “Nel Spencer Tiu, we say this to you: We will bravely stay and fight, and guard the legal process ferociously, even with our lives, until justice is served.” (Calvin D. Cordova)
