Caloocan Bishop Pablo David yesterday confirmed that he has been receiving death threats.
In an interview, David said he started receiving the death threats two weeks ago. “I have been receiving them but I do not know who they are coming from,” said David in an interview.
When asked if he thinks the death threats have something to do with vocal stance against the war on drugs, he said: “I’d say your guess is as good as mine.”
Catholic prelates have condemned the “bloody” war on drugs conducted primarily by the police.
Despite the threats, David is not planning to limit his movements, saying no threat or intimidation can stop him from performing his duty as bishop. “No threat or intimidation can stop me from carrying on with my spiritual and pastoral duties as a bishop,” he said.
“We draw strength and courage from God through prayer and discernment. I get spiritual support from a whole army of contemplatives serving as my prayer partners,” added David. “Of course, I also watch my back,” he said.
President Duterte revealed last Sunday that Manila Archbishop Luis Antonio Cardinal G. Tagle sent a message to former Special Assistant to the President and senatorial bet Bong Go that David and some priests have been receiving death threats from someone claiming to be working for the Chief Executive’s family.
