The road to redemption for Filipina warrior Jomary “The Zamboanginian Fighter” Torres starts with belief–and that’s exactly what her trainer in Rene Catalan wants to work on.
Torres will look to end consecutive losses as she takes on China’s Lin Heqin at ONE: REIGN OF VALOR, which takes place at the Thuwanna Indoor Stadium in Yangon, Myanmar on Friday, 8 March.
For Catalan, the most important thing for Torres is for her to rediscover her hunger and desire to be on top of the division.
“I want to see that hunger for a victory, I want to see more aggressiveness from her,” he said.
“Jomary will go toe-to-toe with her, whether the bout hits the ground or stays on the feet.”
Torres, which started with three-straight wins in The Home Of Martial Arts, dropped back-to-back matches to Mei “V.V” Yamaguchi and Priscilla Hertati Lumbaon Gaol in 2018.
But like her trainer, Torres exhumed confidence that she can bounce back from those setbacks, owing to the lessons that she learned from those matches.
“I have a great career ahead of me. The setbacks in the past will only make me a better competitor moving forward,” she claimed.
“I know Lin Henqin is a great athlete, and I can’t wait to share the cage with her and prove that I belong there.”
Now, Catalan is now focused on preparing Torres physically against her tricky Chinese foe who is known for her incredible knockout power.
With less than two weeks before their battle, the team is now working double time to prepare her body for a war against Heqin.
“We’re going all out with her preparation, trying to get her in the best condition possible,” Catalan shared.
“We want to improve on everything, be it boxing, kicks, wrestling or jiu-jitsu.
