University of the East sorely felt the absence of ace player AJ Lim as it absorbed back-to-back defeats in the tennis UAAP lawn tennis tournament held at the Colegio de San Agustin courts in City of San Jose Del Monte, Bulacan.
Without their main man, the Red Warriors suffered a crushing 4-1 defeat to the UST Tigers last Sunday – a day after their two-year winning run was snapped by the Ateneo Eagles by same score.
Lim is playing most of the time abroad.
UE’s defeats left National University as the only undefeated team with a 5-0 card – thanks to a 4-1 beating of UST.
With still one tie to play, the Bulldogs are already assured of the No. 1 ranking even if they drop their match against the Warriors.
In other Sunday ties, UP won over Adamson University, 4-1, while Ateneo nipped De La Salle, 3-2.
The Maroons and the Eagles forced a four-way logjam in second place at 3-2 along with the Tigers and the Warriors.
In the women’s division, UP defeated Ateneo, 3-2, to tie idle De La Salle on top of the standings at 2-1. The Lady Eagles ended their first round campaign with an even 2-2 slate.
