BACOOR, Cavite – Zamboanga chalked up its fourth straight win with an 83-78 decision over Imus in the MPBL Datu Cup Monday night here.
With the win, the Family’s Brand Sardines-backed Zamboanga evened its record to 12-12, moving up to fifth place in the southern division of the tournament put up by Senator Manny Pacquiao with former PBA MVP Kenneth Duremdes serving as commissioner.
More than that, it overtook rival Bacoor, which dropped an 82-71 loss to the General Santos City Warriors.
With Reed Juntilla taking over the offensive side and Harold Arboleda finishing with yet another double-double performance, Zamboanga picked up another important win as it continued to build momentum ahead of the playoffs.
A former player of the Barako Bull in the PBA, Juntilla bucked a slow start and knocked in 18 of his 22 points in the second half to provide Zamboanga the scoring spunk it needed in the second half.
Arboleda delivered in both ends of the court with 21 points and 10 rebounds.
General Santos City strengthened its hold of the top four in the southern division in its latest win over Bacoor, which lost three in a row and second straight at home. The Warriors also moved closer to reaching the third spot.
Now carrying a 13-10 win-loss slate, the Golden State College-backed squad is just half a game behind No. 3 seed Batangas City Athletics in this tournament also supported by LGR, the official outfitter of the MPBL.
