President Duterte has reiterated his administration’s commitment to empower Filipino women and promote gender equality.
In his message for the International Women’s Day yesterday, Duterte recognized that the occasion serves as a reminder that there is a need to pave the way for an enabling environment for women to be empowered, and make sure that the Magna Carta for Women is properly implemented on all levels of government.
“We must also create and facilitate platforms to discuss best practices, gaps, and challenges in pursuing gender and development in local government units all over the country,” he said.
“May this event serve as a testament to our fists commitment to always inform and engage various stakeholders – whether in the government, the private sector, or in civic organizations,” he added.
“In this manner, we can promote gender equality and put in place functional mechanisms that ensure that any development effort would be inclusive and gender responsive.”
The President enjoined all Filipinos to address the needs of women and recognize their important roles in the country.
“Together, let us work in solidarity with all appropriate institutions to address the strategic needs of women and recognize their innumerable contributions to society,” Duterte said. (Argyll Geducos)
