The Philippine Sports Commission, the government’s sports agency, yesterday inaugurated its new Mindanao office in Matina, Davao City, a development that bodes well specially for athletes from the South.
It is located inside the Catholic Schools Compound on Champaca Street, Juna Subdivision.
Fr. Joel C. Caasi, parish priest of San Lorenzo Parish in Talomo, led the ceremonial blessing of the office with PSC Chairman William I. Ramirez and Commissioner Charles Raymond Maxey in attendance while Presidential Management Staff Assistant Secretary Joseph Encabo as special guest.
Journalist and professor Ed Fernandez has been designated as cluster head.
“This PSC Mindanao office is centered on Mindanao sports for peace programs particularly on children. Promoting early peacemaking among children is important as it would become difficult to start it when they are grown up,” Ramirez said.
He underscored bringing sports, not radicalism and terrorism, to Mindanao as vital in making difference to the pursuit of long lasting peace.
